This week, I get to share the second half of my two-part conversation with Michael Rutherford. (If you missed part one, be sure to listen to it here!) We continue our conversation about thyroid health, and there are so many great takeaways in this one!
Michael and I connected via the great land of Instagram, where he shares holistic health practices as The Thyroid Coach. From a young age, Michael was no stranger to extreme digestive issues. IBS contributed to a horrible quality of life. He was consuming 2000mg of Ibuprofen daily, with constant pain and non-existent energy. It wasn’t until a conversation with his dad that he was led down the path of diet changes and holistic approaches. Through this, he experienced healing change. Now a champion for nutrition and health, he equips men and women through training, coaching and community at Fundamenta Wealth. Michael lives in the Pacific Northwest with his twin boys.
In this episode, we dig a little deeper into why “your labs look fine” isn’t the end of the road, why we often need to eat more food, and some super helpful insight into Vitamin D. I know you’re going to enjoy this half of the conversation, and all the practical tips along the way!

Things to Remember
1) You’re not crazy if you’ve been told “your labs look fine,” but you know you’re not. Michael breaks down all the aspects of T-3, T-4, D-3, and any other pieces of the alphabet soup that you might be hearing about. This will help explain why there is probably more going on with your health than meets the eye (or your labs).
2) Don’t just read the headlines; read the research. Michael and I had a really helpful discussion surrounding Vitamin D, including the different forms we can take in and a small shift in our perspective towards it. Especially after a year where many headlines spoke to this, I appreciated the clarity that Michael brings to this topic.
3) Low-protein, low-calorie diets are the number one way to suppress the pituitary. Consequently, the pituitary doesn’t send enough memos to the thyroid to produce hormones! Ladies, this one gets me fired up. We need to eat more food! This conversation will help you connect how what you eat connects to the rest of your body’s function.
The Wellness Wrap-Up
A new rhythm, perspective, or change you’ve made in your life to achieve a life that’s more wholly well.
Michael shares: “I have started to incorporate my yoga mat, breath work, and red light therapy daily. This doesn’t take a lot of time, but I notice how much more focused and grounded I feel. Simple, doable, and inexpensive!”
