When it comes to our genetics, it can sometimes feel like we got the short end of the stick or are stuck with a dysfunctional body. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. While there are some genetics you will always have to manage, when you know how to support your body, you can still have a whole and healthy life!
I am SO excited for this episode because it covers so many things – health as more than nutrition and exercise, how to eat for wellness, and changing genetic expression. To help me discuss this all is a new friend, Mollie Ferguson.
Mollie is an author, Registered Dietitian, founder and CEO of Seva Functional Wellness, and a precision medicine health consultant specializing in helping people with chronic diseases live life to their fullest potential. Mollie has over seven years of education and spent excessive time and money completing various functional medicine protocols to learn the most efficient way to heal from chronic fatigue.
I loved chatting with Mollie, so listen in!

Things to Remember
1) Do simple things to lower inflammation. In this episode, we discussed the importance of eating from every color of the rainbow daily. While that may be difficult to do each day, by making that our goal, we will start building habits of getting variety in our diet. And all these foods from the colors of the rainbow are the ones that have an “anti” property and support your brain health and reduce inflammation.
2) You don’t have to be doomed by your genes. We still need to pay attention to our genes, but we don’t have to feel doomed by them. Yes, we have tendencies and sometimes extreme sensitivities that come from them. However, we can pay attention to that information and then act on it! When we know our genes, we have the power to mitigate risks through nutrition and supplements tailored to best support our unique genetic makeup.
3) Practice the balanced plate method. Many people don’t realize that our food portions and what we are putting on our plates are out of balance. Mollie shared the balanced plate method to help ensure we put the right things in our bodies so they can get the correct fuel—25% lean proteins, 25% complex carbohydrates, and 50% of non-starchy carbohydrates. Veggies are in this last group! You can mix up what you have in each category, pick your favorites, and you don’t have to feel like you need to fill your entire plate as long as your portions remain the same.
The Wellness Wrap-Up
A new rhythm, perspective, or change you’ve made in your life to achieve a life that’s more wholly well.
Mollie says, “I have started chasing the things that bring me joy. I practice the freedom to say no to the things that I don’t 100% enjoy.” Amazing! So, so good!
